His name has been brought up a lot since he joined the Saints after preseason last year. But the truth is quarterback Taysom Hill is a bit of a mystery.

Head coach Sean Payton raved about him. Payton even reportedly told Fox Sports analyst Troy Aikman that he could be the guy that eventually replaces Drew Brees.

But the only time anyone saw him on the field was when he was running down punts and kickoffs on special teams...

This week things were back to normal,at least for a quarterback On Thursday we were able to get our first glimpse of Hill operating the Saints offense.

"I was joking around with a few guys that this was the first time, first opportunity I've had to take a rep at quarterback of the New Orleans Saints offense," Hill said. "So, the last few days have been a ton of fun. "

"“He’s receiving a lot more valuable snaps at QB (now) because when we claim him we were kind of at the start of the season and you saw him run some scout team and do some of those things," Payton explained. "In other words, post-practice he worked with Joe (Lombardi) or Pete (Carmichael). Now he's receiving true snaps with the twos and receiving a lot of work and he's he's done real well."

And the truth is, he looked pretty good doing it. He spent most of Thursday's practice splitting time with Tom Savage as the number two quarterback.

" We like where he is at, and he's grinding working hard. He's a guy that you guys saw maybe a play today that when he does get outside of the pocket, he can run, real fast. That presents a new challenge for the defense. "
