NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 36-year-old woman died from alcohol and drug withdrawal while in custody at the Orleans Justice Center, according to a report by our partners NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.
According to the report, an official with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's office said that the woman was found unresponsive in her cell Sunday at 9 p.m.
OPSO said in the report that EMS tried to administer lifesaving procedures, but they were not successful.
According to the report, when the woman was booked on May 25 she said that she had used heroin and alcohol daily for several years and had used heroin the day of her arrest.
She was placed on a detoxification program for opioid and alcohol withdrawal but refused her medication dose Sunday evening, according to the report.
Officials are not releasing her name until her family has been notified. No other details were immediately available.
