METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - The man accused of killing the owner of Big Lee's towing has been ordered to court by a judge.
Wayne Higgins was subpoenaed to appear for a status hearing Wednesday. Higgins is accused of shooting Big Lee Martin in the driveway between their two homes.
Higgins is being held on a $500,000 bond and was booked on second degree murder charges.
According to deputies, Martin was watering outside his home when Higgins started to back out of his driveway next door. Deputies say Martin sprayed water on Higgins' vehicle, and after an exchange of words sprayed inside the vehicle and in his face.
That's when deputies say Higgins stepped out of the vehicle with a gun, shooting and killing Martin in his own yard.
At that bond hearing last month, 78-year-old Higgins was brought into the courtroom, handcuffed to a wheelchair and needed a hearing-aid before being brought before the judge.
Higgins' lawyer told the judge his client could afford to post a $650,000 property bond but as of Wednesday morning Higgins is still behind bars.
According to FOX 8 Legal Analyst Joe Raspanti, both men's history with each other could be a factor if the case goes to trial.
