ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fight at a sandbar on the West Pearl River that left one person dead. Deputies were called to the scene, Saturday just after 5:30 p.m., at the sandbar, just south of Davis Landing Boat Launch.
According to police, a disturbance between two groups of individuals escalated into a physical fight. As a result of the fight one man, who has been identified by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office as 46-year-old Jeffery Howell, suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Deputies arrested two men in connection with the incident late Saturday night. The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Cameron Alphonso and 22-year-old Alden Kindergran both of Slidell.
Alphonso and Kindergran have been booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail. Alphonso has been charged with one count of manslaughter and Kindergran has been charged with one count of disturbing the peace.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Deputies say additional charges and/or arrests may be forthcoming.
