PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The U.S. Coast Guard and local partners responded to water near Breton Sound where an estimated 126 gallons of crude oil spilled.
According to a Coast Guard spokesperson, the spill was reported Thursday after a 61-foot motor vessel struck the Breton Sound 18 production platform, leading to the spill.
Crews used a jack-up rig to pump water through the line that was hit, in order to find the leak. They also placed a drum underneath the leak to catch any additional product that may have leaked out.
One thousand feet of boom was placed in the water to keep the spilled oil from spreading. ES&H removed 100 gallons of oily-water.
