JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Government records showed the average parade in Jefferson Parish cost taxpayers $111,000 this year.

According to a report by our partners NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, that's more than double the expense in 2006.

This means the public cost of supporting the parades is increasing much faster than the rate of inflation.

This year, the parish council gave direct subsidies totaling $85,000 to four krewes.

That made the total cost for taxpayers this year rise to $1.6 million for 14 parades.
