FRANKLINTON, LA (WVUE) - A child who was was rushed to St. Tammany Hospital in Covington Wednesday after being attacked by a pit bull in Franklinton is doing well after surgery, according to Franklinton Police.
Police said the child will likely be in the hospital for a few more days and will go through rabies treatment as a precaution.
Officers were called to the 400 block of 15th Avenue Wednesday afternoon. According to Maj. Justin Brown with the Franklinton Police Department, officers arrived on scene to find the animal attacking the 9-year-old boy. They used a taser to get the dog off of the child.
Maj. Brown said when the dog tried to attack the boy again, it was shot and killed by an officer. The animal will be tested for rabies, and investigators are working to determine who the animal belonged to.
The boy reportedly sustained moderate injuries.
