ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a car crash that claimed the life of a St. Bernard man. The crash occurred Sunday, just after 9 a.m. The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Scott Lopez.
Police say that Lopez was driving an SUV east on Highway 300 near mile post 7.9 when he lost control of the vehicle on a curve. The vehicle went across the westbound lane and left the roadway before hitting a traffic sign and tree.
Lopez, who police say was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, was brought to University Medical Center in New Orleans where he was pronounced dead. Investigators do not know if impairment played a role in the crash and toxicology tests are pending. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
State police continue to investigate the crash.
