The driver of a car that was pulled over has been arrested in an investigation in which a Louisiana state trooper shot one of the passengers during the traffic stop early Tuesday morning, according to Louisiana State Police.
Sr. Tpr. Bryan Lee with LSP Troop A reported Jamaal Mire Jr., 19, of Baton Rouge, was driving the car and ran off while being questioned by the trooper.
The traffic stop and shooting happened on Potwin Drive at Perkins Road in Baton Rouge around 3 a.m.
Lee said four people were inside of the vehicle that was pulled over and the trooper fired at a passenger who was not complying with the instructions given by the trooper.
Lee reported the trooper suffered a minor injury but was NOT shot. The trooper was treated and released.
Lee added the person who was shot was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for treatment. The person's condition is unknown.
Lee stated Mire and another passenger ran off, while the other passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody Tuesday morning.
Officials have also not released how the trooper was injured.
According to the probable cause report, about four grams of marijuana was found in Mire's vehicle.
Mire was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of resisting an officer, possession of marijuana, and driving on divided highways. His bond has not been set.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
