Report: First male dancer wins coveted spot on Saintsations roster

Jesse Hernandez audition

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man who auditioned to be a Saintsations has earned his spot on the dance team.

A picture of Jesse Hernandez was posted on The Saintsations website under the team's roster.

According to NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, Hernandez will be the first male Saintsation to perform on the field.

According to an earlier report by our partners, New Orleans Saints enthusiast William Taylor of Thibodaux, who identifies himself as the "unofficial Saints dance team historian," said that from 1967 to 1996, male and female acrobatic cheerleaders performed on the New Orleans Saints sidelines.

Taylor also said that to his knowledge there has never been a male member of the Saintsations.

Hernandez was the only male among 50 women who auditioned. He is a life-long dancer who lives in Maurice.

In April it was clear that Hernandez could dance. In a group audition Hernandez stood out from his counterparts in a rigourous routine to Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop The Feeling.

The Saints will have their first pre-season game in Jacksonville on Aug. 9.
