JP officials warn of coyote dangers to pets

JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish deputies issued a warning for people with pets after coyotes were found in residential areas.

The sheriff's office said attacks on people are extremely rare, but pets left alone outside can be in danger.

Residents are asked to always keep dogs on a leash, and avoid known coyote dens or areas with thick vegetation.

JPSO said the only way to protect cats is to keep them indoors.

Residents should also avoid leaving pet food and water outside as to not attract coyotes.
