LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - A LaPlace man has been arrested for attempted murder after a machete attack, according to Sheriff Mike Tregre.

Juan Carlos Ramos, 44, was arrested Saturday, according to Tregre.

According to the report, on Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. St. John The Baptist Parish deputies were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Augustin Lane in reference to an aggravated assault.

When deputies arrived, they found a 44-year-old man on a sofa suffering from severe cuts to his forearms, wrists, and left side of his face.

Officers placed tourniquets to the man's arms to stop the bleeding, according to Tregre.

EMS arrived on scene and transported the man to an area hospital where he remains in guarded, but stable condition.

Ramos was identified as the suspect, who had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.

Officers learned that Ramos entered a residence that he shared with a woman he shared an on-again-off-again relationship with, according to Tregre.

A warrant was obtained for his arrested and he was taken into custody.

Ramos was booked with attempted second degree murder. He is being held in custody in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

Ramos has been in the country illegally since 2016, according to Tregre.
