(AP/WVUE) - Students at two of Louisiana's college systems will pay more for classes this year.
The LSU and Southern University systems enacted campus-wide fee hikes of up to five percent on their students.
The higher charges aren't covered by TOPS.
Full time students on LSU's main campus in Baton Rouge will pay close to $300 more a semester.
Southern University's campus in Baton Rouge will charge an extra $200 a semester.
State House Speaker Taylor Barras called the steeper prices shocking while some lawmakers believed shielding the TOPS program from cuts would prevent such increases.
