NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Governor John Bel Edwards expects to name a replacement for State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson next week.

Edwards plans to name an interim leader who doesn't want the job permanently. He wants to name a permanent superintendent before June 2017.

Col. Edmonson announced March 15 plans to retire March 24, following scrutiny from a Lee Zurik Investigation. Zurik's investigative stories found 17 state police employees took a trip to San Diego for a conference where Edmonson got a lifetime achievement award. The stories helped launch probes by State Police Internal Affairs, the Division of Administration and the legislative auditor.
