NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one man dead.

The crash involved a garbage truck on Hwy. 24 near Technology Blvd. in Gray. It happened Tuesday around 6:30 a.m.

Gerald Houston, 45, of Houma, died on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed 26-year-old Dylan Morris, of Schriever, was driving a 2018 Toyota Tundra while traveling north on LA 24 North in the left lane. Morris approached a 2017 Mack garbage truck from behind that was stopped partially on the left shoulder and left lane of LA 24.

The Mack truck was being driven by 28-year-old Bruce Woods, of Lockport.

Houston was standing on the right side of the garbage truck operating the controls when Morris struck him and the garbage truck with his vehicle. Houston suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Both Morris and Woods were properly restrained and neither of them sustained any injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
