NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -A man’s body was found Monday in the 17th Street Canal, according to The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Jefferson Parish officials said in the report that the body was found about 10 a.m. near the 300 block of Orpheum Avenue, between the pump station and Metairie Road.
JPSO deputies were dispatched to Pumping Station Number 6, near the intersection of Orpheum Avenue and Hyacinth Street, at approximately 9:54 am.
The remains were seen floating in the canal, and the JPSO LASER Division was dispatched to assist with recovery.
The remains were recovered around 11:10 am and were turned over to the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office.
At this time, the identity of the deceased is unknown.
