NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -The New Orleans Police Department scrambled to catch a suspected Waffle House robber in New Orleans East early Thursday morning.
NOPD officers arrested Hao Luu in connection to the armed robberies.
Around 4:51 a.m. officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Waffle House in the 5800 block of Read Boulevard.
Investigators learned that an unknown man had allegedly entered the business, walked up to the cashier and stated that he was going to rob the restaurant. The subject then allegedly unzipped his jacket, displaying a firearm to the victim, according to NOPD.
The suspect demanded money from the cash register. The cashier complied and the subject fled the scene.
Minutes later, at about 5:09 a.m., officers responded to a second armed robbery incident, reported at the Waffle House in the 11900 block of N. I-10 Service Road.
Investigators learned that an unknown man later identified as Luu had entered the business, walked up to the register and asked an employee if she was the manager.
The victim replied that she was the manager, at which time the subject allegedly demanded money and implied that he had a gun.
The victim complied, and the subject fled the business, according to NOPD.
As the suspect was exiting, he was apprehended by NOPD officers.
A search of the subject revealed a semi-automatic handgun in the arrested subject’s waistband, according to the report.
Through investigation, detectives determined Luu to be the perpetrator in both armed robbery incidents and that the firearm found in Luu’s possession was reported as stolen.
Luu was arrested and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for two counts each of armed robbery with a firearm and illegal carrying of a weapon, as well as a charge of illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
