NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 19-year-old Thibodaux man has been arrested in connection with a Monday (Oct. 15) shooting that one dead and one injured, according to Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue.
Tyrick Hills, 19, of S. Barbier Avenue was booked with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
On Tuesday (Oct. 16), members of the Thibodaux Police Department’s Immediate Response Team executed a search warrant on S. Barbier Avenue stemming from the shooting death of 20-year-old Alex Morena of Galliano.
Officers responded Monday to the 300 block of Dove Lane in reference to a report of gun shots being fired. When they arrived officers found the driver of a vehicle deceased on scene. A passenger who had fled the scene was later found, after notifying police that he had also been while inside the vehicle. The passenger sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The passenger’s identity is being withheld by police.
The incident remains under investigation and Zeringue said detectives are not ruling out other suspects. He said a suspected motive is being withheld in attempt to protect the integrity of the investigation.
