NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty of raping a pre-teen girl in Lafourche Parish in May of 2017.

Prosecutors say Kendriontae Johnson, 19, raped the girl inside of his home after she and a friend approached him for money to buy a “frozen cup.”

Johnson brought them into his home and convinced the pre-teen victim to follow him to another room under the pretense of talking to her about rumors that he was hearing.

Once in another room, Johnson covered her mouth and proceeded to sexually assault her.

“Now that the abuser is behind bars, I hope the victim can move forward in the healing process,” said Assistant District Attorney Jason Chatagnier, who prosecuted the case. “It is always very difficult for a victim to come forward and face an abuser.”

Johnson was sentenced to 20 years in prison. As part of his sentencing, Johnson will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Note: This story has bee updated after officials issued a correction regarding Johnson’s sentence.
