NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A new krewe is being added to the city’s first official night of the carnival season. It’s called the Funky Uptown Krewe and will parade on St. Charles Avenue on the Twelfth Night, January 6, 2019.

The Funky Uptown Krewe will follow the Phunny Phorty Phellows, on the St. Charles streetcar line. The Krewe’s ride will feature DJ Mannie Fresh, who will be performing a full DJ set on the St. Charles streetcar.

The Funky Uptown Krewe will depart from Bourrée at Boucherie (1510 S. Carrolton Ave.) at 7:05 p.m. and ride the St. Charles streetcar to Canal St. then back to Fat Harry’s (4330 St. Charles Ave.).

The Krewe’s signature throws will include professionally packaged CDs and mixtapes featuring some of New Orleans’ best artists, including: Hot 8 Brass Band, Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Cowboy Mouth.

Only 1,000 copies of the mixtape, Funky Uptown Krewe, Vol. I, are in existence and Twelfth Night will be the only opportunity to get a copy of this very limited release!

A krewe spokesperson says the goal is to encourage more revelers to flock to the St. Charles streetcar line on Twelfth Night and provide some small boost to local businesses. The Krewe is 100% volunteer-run and more than 90% of every dollar spent by the Krewe is spent locally!
