NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Morning Call’s City Park location will close its doors on January 20 according to co-owner Bob Hennessey.
Hennessey says they were notified by City Park that they will need to vacate the location by January 24 but says no formal announcement was made of who will take over the space.
The move comes after a legal battle between Morning Call and City Park over the first round of bids. Morning Call filed a lawsuit after they were disqualified from bidding for the location by City Park officials for showing up to a mandatory pre-bid meeting late. A judge later ruled that City Park would have to restart the bidding process because it was not considered to be a good enough reason to disqualify Morning Call from bidding.
City Park reopened the bidding process and last month, Morning Call, Café du Monde and Café Beignet all entered bids for the City Park location with Café du Monde submitting the highest bid.
Morning Call closed its Metairie location last year due to the rising cost of rent.
Hennessey says they are actively searching for a new location for Morning Call.
