NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A slow warm-up will begin on Wednesday and last all the way into Saturday. The work week looks dry to mostly dry with just a few spotty showers possible on Thursday and Friday. Temperatures may get as warm as the 70s by Friday.
Major changes are coming for the weekend. Saturday will also be very mild but there will be a good chance for rain and maybe a few thunderstorms moving into the area by the afternoon. Details on the timing and intensity will become more clear later this week.
Behind the rain will be a major Arctic front that could bring the coldest temperatures this winter. Temperatures for Saints Sunday may struggle to hit 40 degrees with wind chills in the 20s. Winds may gust as high as 40 mph during the day on Sunday.
A hard freeze is possible away from the lake by next Monday morning with a light freeze a possibility for the metro area. It’s too early to know for sure how cold it might get but preparations for a significant freeze should begin later this week just in case.
