NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department says a teen was arrested after he was caught attempting to put gas into a stolen vehicle.

According to police, the owner of the stolen vehicle located the vehicle on Thursday around 10 a.m. in the 1000 block of Chimneywood Lane. When he arrived at the location, he saw 17-year-old Kyrin Knatt attempting to take fuel from a lawnmower and put it into the vehicle.

When Knatt spotted the victim watching him, he fled the location on foot but later returned and continued to attempt to put fuel in the vehicle.

The victim contacted police who arrived at the location and arrested Knatt without incident.

Knatt was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for illegal possession of stolen things and unauthorized use of a moveable. Police later learned that Knatt also had an arrest warrant for a residential burglary in the 10 block of Curtis Drive on November 12, 2018.

If anyone has any information about either of the incidents, they are asked to contact NOPD Seventh District detectives at (504) 658-6070.
