GRETNA, La. (WVUE) - A cyclist was critically injured after being struck by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy Monday afternoon (Jan. 21), who was escorting a funeral procession on a motorcycle, according to JPSO spokesman Lt. Jason Rivarde.
The crash happened on Stumpf Boulevard between Gretna Boulevard and Westbank Expressway around 1:15 p.m., Rivarde said. The victim was brought to a nearby hospital and was listed in critical condition.
The deputy was treated and released after the crash. Details of what caused the crash were not immediately available, but Rivarde said no citations have been issued.
The crash was the second motorcycle accident involving a JPSO deputy in the past two days. In a separate incident Sunday night, a deputy riding a motorcycle was injured while escorting a vehicle away from the Superdome, according to JPSO. The driver allegedly drove through a traffic light, striking the deputy, who sustained “moderate injuries.”
