NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish East Bank Fire Chief Dave Tibbet shared an update on the condition of a firefighter injured while battling an apartment fire in Metairie Saturday.

Tibbets identified the injured firefighter as Dan Ziegler. Ziegler was assisting the interior team fighting the fire when he fell through the roof of the building. He was pulled from the fire and transported to University Medical Center where he is currently being treated for second and third-degree burns.

A second firefighter who helped pull Zeigler from the fire was treated for burns to his fingers.

Tibbets says 30 units were affected by the fire, smoke or water damage. Nearly 100 residents have been displaced.

“We ask for continued prayers for Dan Ziegler and his family and thank all of our firefighters for putting their lives on the line every time they get a call,” said Chief Tibbets. “I also want to thank the doctors and medical staff at UMC for taking great care of Dan.”
