NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A two-vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Houma on Sunday. Louisiana State Troopers are withholding the name of the victim until the next of kin is notified.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on LA 3040 just north of Hollywood Rd.
The pedestrian, identified as 62-year-old Jack Basting, of Houma, was crossing the highway from west to east. As the person was crossing the left southbound lane, he was hit by a southbound 2015 Toyota Corolla being driven by Jerimiah Thomas, 24, of Houma, police said.
The pedestrian was then struck a second time by a 2014 Honda Accord that was following behind Thomas. It was being driven by Mary Schwab, 21, of Houma.
Acadian Ambulance Service transported Basting to Terrebonne General Medical Center where he would later die from his injuries. Thomas and Schwab were wearing their seat belts and were not injured in the crash.
Impairment is unknown on the part of the pedestrian and standard toxicology tests are pending through the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Thomas and Schwab provided breath samples for alcohol and the results showed no alcohol present, officers said.
