ST. LANDRY PARISH (WVUE) - The man accused of setting three fires that destroyed historically black churches in Louisiana is set to appear in court Monday.
The clerk of court’s office in St. Landry parish said 21-year-old Holden Matthews will appear for a bond hearing. Investigators said the three churches were set on fire over the course of ten days in march and April.
Authorities have stopped short of saying there was a racial motive. However, Governor John Bel Edwards called the fires a reminder of past acts of racial discrimination.
