Severe Weather Threat Today

All of Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi are under an Enhanced (Level 3/5) Risk for severe weather today. A Flash Flood Watch will begin for areas north of Lake Pontchartrain at 7:00 am. A Wind Advisory will begin for the entire area at noon. In addition, our area is outlined for the threat of “significant severe weather”. That is defined by the possibility of strong tornadoes (EF2 or stronger), thunderstorm winds of 75 mph or greater, and 2 inch diameter hail (golf ball). Heavy rain and lightning are also likely threats.

Individual storms will begin around lunchtime and continue into the afternoon hours. The threat should come to an end by 9 PM as a cold front finally sweeps through the area. Behind that front, the holiday weekend looks great. It will be windy and cooler on Friday. Lots of sun and mild temperatures are expected for Saturday and Sunday.
