HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A lot of people turn to herbal remedies as a natural way to fight ailments.
South Mississippi’s Blue Boy Herbs makes and sends herbal medicines all over the world. Owner and Master Herbalist Darrell Martin steps into a bog.
“This is a very good example of a low growing bog plant. For a Medical Botanist, this is a paradise,” Martin said.
Martin appreciates nature and has dedicated his life to studying the medicinal power of plants, something mankind has done since the beginning of time. Martin believes everything on Earth is here for a reason, part of God’s plan
“Every plant has a use. There are no accidents,” Marrtin said.
Martin owns Blue Boy Herbs and lives out in rural Hancock County where medicinal plants can be found in bogs and throughout the woods on Martin’s property.
“We always appreciate what’s in our own backyard,” Martin said.
South Mississippi is fertile ground for an array of plants and herbs that are valuable ingredients in remedies for all kinds of ailments and diseases.

“They call this Jopai. The root of this is very good for kidney stones," Martin said.
Blue Boy Herbs produces countless tinctures made of of various plants designed to treat people. He sends his products all over the world.
Martin is getting ready to host his annual Spring Herb Fest April 27 and 28. Martin will conduct herb walks, and he’s bringing in a collection of experts to talk about all kinds of subjects. Demonstrations will give visitors a look at how common plants prepared correctly can change people’s lives
