NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man wanted in connection with a homicide in New Orleans East was arrested Thursday (April 25) in Baton Rouge.

Alfred Simmons, 43, faces a charge of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend.

On April 18 at about 8:40 p.m., New Orleans police were called to the intersection of Westlake Drive and Dwyer Road, where they found a female lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

During the course of their investigation, detectives learned that Simmons had been stalking the victim and was seen sitting outside her home in a black BMW. Surveillance video showed the victim walking to the car and sitting in the passenger seat. Moments later, the two can be seen struggling, and both run out of the camera’s view.

Simmons is then seen getting back in the car and driving away.

The NOPD has not released the name of the victim. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name and official cause of death following the completion of an autopsy and notification of family.
