54-year-old man dies in Barracks Street house fire

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Fire Department is investigating a fire that claimed the life of a man. A spokesperson for the NOFD said the man died in the hospital after he was trapped inside the burning 7th ward home.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 2300 block of Barracks Street around 7:00 p.m. Monday.

Both units of the duplex were destroyed in the fire while a neighboring home experienced exposure damage.

Firefighters searched the home to investigate a report of a trapped person.

They pulled a 54-year-old man out of the home where rescuers performed CPR.

He was rushed to University Medical Center where he died.

The NOFD said there were no smoke alarms in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
