NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - After staying put and watching the first round of the NFL Draft from a distance, the Saints picked up their aggressiveness on days two and three. They traded up 14 spots to select Texas A&M center Erik McCoy at 48th overall int he second round. They also landed a strong value pick at 105th overall in the 4th round with Florida safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
Sean Fazende on the Saints drafting C Erik McCoy:
”I think he is the one that has the best opportunity to start right away because I think he can battle with Nick Easton, and perhaps, if he doesn’t win that job right away, he can take over and be that sixth lineman.“
Chris Hagan on Saints not addressing need for slot wide receiver:
”Some people were higher on tight ends or maybe addressing the defensive line. I just felt like because the free agent market for slot receivers got so expensive, like ridiculously expensive for a Cole Beasley, no offense, that was a position that I thought you could find quality in the draft with any of the picks the Saints had.”
