NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Saints have made it through the thick of free agency, completed the 2019 draft and are now looking ahead to the offseason. One potential feat to accomplish would be a contract extension for wide receiver Michael Thomas, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
Sean Fazende on the Saints’ dependence on Thomas:
“Michael Thomas is the first non-quarterback of the Sean Payton era where if you took him off...oh no, what’s going to happen? Look, they would find a way to survive, they always do, but you’ve just got to have Michael Thomas, it’s just that simple. If it were me, I would probably go five years, $95 million."
Fazende on the timeline for negotiations:
“The bigger question is when does this happen? How do they approach the negotiations? Neither side has said anything, that’s probably a good thing because generally when they start to leak like that, it’s probably getting contentious.”
