State Police: LaPlace man killed in motorcycle crash

LAPLACE, La. (WVUE) - A 47-year-old LaPlace man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Highway 61 Saturday afternoon (May 12), according to Louisiana State Police.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police said Clifton Campbell was driving a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle north bound on Highway 61 near Cambridge Drive around 4:30 p.m. while a 58-year-old man was driving a Ford F-150 truck south on the same road. State police said the man in the truck turned left, crossing Campbell’s path.

Campbell crash into the truck and was thrown off the motorcycle. Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Campbell was fatally injured and died on the scene.

As of Sunday night, it was not known whether or not Campbell was intoxicated at the time of the crash. State police said a toxicology sample will be taken and submitted to investigators for analysis.

Police do not believe the other driver was intoxicated.

No additional information was immediately available and a state police spokesman said the crash remains under investigation.
