NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Bring on Zion. Welcome in to Juan’s World where, all of a sudden, a Pelicans season ticket just quadrupled in price. Well, not really, but that’s the kind of effect Zion Williamson is expected to have on the Pelicans after they draft him.
The draft is still over a month away and a lot of wheeling and dealing could take place between now and then. But, it’s hard to imagine the Pelicans letting go of this once-in-a-generational talent, no matter what the offer being thrown their way is.
In Williamson, the Pelicans are getting college basketball’s best all-around player. Not just last season, but arguably since Anthony Davis came out. His more than 500-points, 50-blocks and 50-steals as a freshman, hasn’t been achieved by another first year player since Anthony Davis did it in 2012.
His one-year at Duke will will go down as one of the most dominating seasons ever by a college freshman, Zion averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. He shot 68 percent from the floor. That’s the highest field goal percentage ever by a freshman. He was the third freshman to ever win Naismith National Player of the Year. He became the first college player ever to win ACC POY, ACC ROY and ACC Tournament MVP.
He has been that good....in college. I suspect, he could be that good....in the pros as well. All eyes on the Pelicans going forward.
Juan’s World, Juan’s World. Excellent!!!!
