SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) - A house fire in Slidell left a family without a home and their pets dead Wednesday afternoon ( May 15), according to St. Tammany officials.
The Starling Drive home caught fire shortly before 2 p.m., according to Jason Gaubert, assistant chief of the St. Tammany Fire Protection District 1. When firefighters arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames, Gaubert said.
No one was home when the fire broke out, but the family’s four were inside and perished during the blaze. No other injuries were reported, Gaubert said.
Firefighters were able to gain control of the fire within an hour, according to Gaubert. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A total of 18 units and 37 firefighters responded to the fire.
