NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office wants the public to beware of a scam that has been going around the North Shore.

The caller uses artificial intelligence technology, which gives them the ability to copy, or spoof, a voice. They will use this to convince potential victims that their child or another loved one has been kidnapped.

The scammers use what appears to be the voice of the potential victim’s child or loved one to scare them into paying a ransom, deputies said.

If you receive a suspicious call of this nature or of any nature, please hang up and call local law enforcement (STPSO - 985-898-2338) or 911.
