Accused French Quarter shooter on suicide watch, mother says ‘not intentional’

Exlcusive: Mother of alleged French Quarter shooter speaks

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - A court hearing set Friday for the man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend this week in the French Quarter has been delayed one day.

Alexander Kirby was set to appear Thursday and Friday, but court documents said that did not happen because he is on suicide watch.

His mother, Ruth Kirby, confirmed that he was not in court because he is under medical supervision.

““It’s a very unfortunate thing for both families, and I definitely want him to see us because I have not been able to speak with him,” Ruth Kirby said.

She said her family is coping, while she was wearing a bracelet that said “Just Breathe.” She had hoped to see him in court.

New Orleans police said he shot 33-year-old Shay De Saint Germain in the face Wednesday night outside of the Clover Grill restaurant where she worked on Bourbon St.

It happened after he allegedly confronted her and another victim in the courtyard. Alexander Kirby’s gun allegedly went off and shot her when she intervened as he argued with the other victim.

The suspect is in custody on a $600,000 bond and booked with second-degree murder. He has a public defender.
