Report: LSU 5-star commit transfering from Mater Dei High School
SANTA ANA, Calif. (WAFB) - One of LSU’s top commitments for the 2020 recruiting class is leaving Mater Dei High School and the reason for the transfer could be great news for the Tigers, according to 247Sports.
Elias Ricks, a 5-star defensive back from Santa Ana, Calif., told 247Sports he is transferring from Mater Dei in order to “graduate a semester early and enroll at LSU in time for spring ball.”
Ricks is the No. 1 defensive back in the country and the nation’s 10th overall high school prospect for the 2020 recruiting class.
He has been committed to LSU since December of 2018.
“I’m still rock solid, 100% locked in with LSU,” Ricks told 247Sports.
“They know what's going, they know where I'll be next year too, I'm just not ready to announce it yet. I love LSU and love what they're doing. I'm still taking my official visits but that was always the plan and they're fully aware of that too.
"I'm going to visit Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and USC in addition to LSU. The only date I have is with Ohio State week 11 for the Penn State game. I want to enjoy the experience but LSU is home for me and I love the coaches and environment."
Ricks is one of three California verbal commitments for head coach Ed Orgeron.
Jermaine Burton, a 4-star wide receiver from Calabasas and Jordan Berry, a 3-star defensive tackle from Harbor City, Calif. will join Ricks next season at LSU.
LSU currently has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, behind only reigning national champion Clemson Tigers.
