NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department says a 16-year-old boy was injured in a shooting in New Orleans East early Sunday morning.

According to police, the victim was walking in the 7200 block of Northgate Drive around 2:15 a.m. when he noticed three males walking behind him. When the victim turned around one of the suspects began firing shots at him. The victim began running away but was struck in the hand.

The victim was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.
