SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) - Two men are facing charges after a road rage incident escalated to a shooting at a Chevron gas station in Slidell Wednesday afternoon (June 26), according to the Slidell Police Department.
Police reported the shooting just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Gause Boulevard and Tyler Drive.
According to Police, the shooting was the result of a road rage incident between 45-year-old Matthew Ledet and 71-year-old Benjamin Talton. Investigators said Ledet intentionally stopped his Honda SUV in front of Talton’s Honda truck on Tyler Drive. The 45-year-old then exited his vehicle and forcefully struck the hood of Talton’s truck, leaving a dent.
Slidell Police Captain Daniel Seuzeneau said Talton then got out of his truck with a gun and confronted Ledet. During the encounter, Talton fired one shot hitting Ledet in the arm.
Ledet was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
James Potkoski, who witnessed the shooting said he initially thought the two drivers knew each other and were stopped to pass a note or something until he heard gunfire.
“Then I heard it was a shot and then saw a gentleman slumped to the side in his vehicle and I think did I just see what I saw?” Potkoski said.
Talton was arrested and booked into Slidell City Jail with charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a firearm. Once Ledet is released from the hospital, police said he will be facing charges of disturbing the peace, criminal damage and obstruction of the public passage.
Seuzeneau said both men stayed on the scene until police arrived.
