LSU sees big lead evaporate in loss to Utah St. in Jamaica Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The LSU men’s basketball team knew it was facing a tough contest Friday in its opening game of the Jersey Mike’s Jamacia Classic when the Tigers took on No. 15 Utah State at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

The Tigers (3-2) jumped out to a 14-point halftime lead that grew to as much as 19 but the turnover bug bit them in the second half in an 80-70 loss to Utah State (6-0). They committed 16 turnovers in the game.

Skylar Mays led the way for LSU with 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Darius Days and Emmitt Williams each had 14 points. Javonte Smart and Trendon Watford each chipped in eight points.

The Tigers will play next face Rhode Island at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. They will then return to Baton Rouge to face Missouri State on Friday at 7 p.m.
