St. John Parish - FIRST DAY FOR VIRTUAL LEARNING PROGRAM (1ST-12TH): Monday, August 31
St. John Parish - FIRST DAY FOR IN-PERSON/HYBRID MODEL STUDENTS: Tuesday, September 8
St. John Parish - FIRST DAY FOR PREK/HEAD START/KINDERGARTEN: Monday, September 14
The St. John the Baptist Parish Public School District will offer families two options for learning for the 2020 fall semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students who choose to attend school in person will, as long as we remain in Phase II as designated by government officials, attend under a "hybrid" model. This means students in grades preK-3 will attend school full time. Students in grades 4-12 will have a mix of in-person and distance learning, attending school on designated days of the week and attending class online the other days. Schedules will be created district-wide using household addresses. Students with the same address will be scheduled to attend school on the same platoon day (green or gold), regardless of grade level and school site. If we are allowed by government officials to proceed into Phase III, more students would be brought back into the classroom full time.
We also recognize and respect that not all parents are comfortable sending their children into a school setting during the current pandemic. For those families, we are offering distance learning. The Virtual Learning Program offers full-time, online learning from home. The Virtual Learning Program will mimic a typical school day. It will be a structured day that includes expectations, learning objectives, whole group activities, small group activities, lunch time, brain breaks, etc. taught by a teacher from your home school. Once enrolled, you are committed to virtual-only instruction through the end of the fall semester.
Although the window for applications has closed, students can still enroll in the virtual program with the understanding that a laptop is not guaranteed for those enrolling after the deadline. Please contact your principal to enroll in the Virtual Learning Program.
Know that we are hard at work planning for the 2020-21 school year and will communicate updated information here as it becomes available. We are planning for various scenarios as we work under the guidance of health officials and the Louisiana Department of Education and will always keep the health and safety of our students and staff as our top priority.
