NEW ORLEANS, La. (WVUE) -The City of New Orleans said Tuesday that Phase 2 restrictions will remain in place for at least two to three weeks after children return to in person learning.

Orleans parish students start virtual learning Wednesday, Aug. 12, but are not expected to return to the classroom until after Labor Day.

The city says while the overall COVID-19 data is tending downward, they will remain very guarded.

The city says it wants to see what impact reopening schools will have before they relax restrictions.

New Orleans Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno is expected to detail the current Coronavirus data at a news conference Wednesday morning. 

As of Aug. 11, Orleans Parish had 10,768 positive cases of Coronavirus and 562 deaths.
