Lakeview man ambushed, shot in driveway

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A Lakeview man says he’s lucky to be alive after two men ambushed him in his driveway.

He and his wife say they’re traumatized by what happened. The entire incident was caught on surveillance video.

It was just after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning when the homeowner gets into his van and begins to back out of the gated driveway. You can see two armed men walking up through the opening gate.

The victim, who will not be identified, told FOX 8, he looked through the side mirror and saw the men with guns approaching him. He wasted no time, and he quickly put the van in reverse. As he did that, the gunmen started shooting.

“I saw the guns clearly in their hands and I’m like, my first reaction was to floor it in reverse and just try to get out of there and that’s when they started shooting at me. I was able to back up just enough to where I was a distance from them,” says the victim.

After he backed into the street, his van unexpectedly stalled. The victim told us, he was so nervous and quickly looked at the gunmen to see if they were still firing. Instead, the gunmen took off, jumped into a getaway car, and left.

The victim believes he was targeted, but he doesn’t know why. He says surveillance video shows the suspects sitting outside of his home for about an hour before everything unfolded.

“We have them on surveillance. They waited for a good period of time, close to an hour for me to come out. That’s really scary,” says the victim.

The homeowners remain vigilant. Meanwhile, the NOPD is investigating this case. If you know anything about the suspects, you’re asked to call Crimestoppers.
