NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - It turns out, when two gunmen ambushed and opened fire on a Lakeview homeowner Tuesday morning, one of them may have shot the other.
“We don’t see a blood trail, but that’s what is on the audio,” says the victim.
The victim says the NOPD told him it’s investigating the possibility that one gunman shot the other. Meanwhile, the victim says he remains fearful after gunmen walked into his gated driveway and shot at him when he took off in reverse out of the driveway.
“I just think they’re loose cannons. I mean they’re shooting obviously in any direction to go hit the person you’re involved with during the ambush,” says the victim.
The victim believes the gunmen targeted him, but he doesn’t know why. The brazen crime has un-nerved the Lakeview community.
“It’s beyond a boiling point. This last incident is not the first armed encounter that’s happened here, but I believe it was the tipping point,” says Paul Villere.
Paul VIllere is the manager of Fleur De Lis Tire and Auto in Lakeview and he says the recent crime increase is now the talk of the community.
“We see 120 people here a day, and I believe about 80 percent of them have talked to us about it in some capacity. I think the overwhelming feeling is being victimized and being disgusted by the whole situation,” says Villere.
Villere says he shares the sentiment of the entire community when he says, more needs to be done.
“We have to check our security cameras before we walk outside in the morning. I personally don’t go anywhere unarmed. With this latest incident, I can just hope and pray that something gets done,” says Villere.
