NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Tulane University has announced that it has been designated as a COVID-19 vaccine provider.
The Louisiana Department of Health has allowed Tulane to become one of the first universities in the state to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.
Under the designation, Tulane will be able to receive the vaccine directly from manufacturers so they will be able to rapidly mobilize staff members to provide the vaccine to those in the university community who are eligible under current state guidelines.
Tulane is expected to receive 5,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine early next week with more to come later this month.
The first groups to receive the vaccine will be those working on the front lines of COVID-19 research and community response. Those who are eligible will receive an email to schedule and appointment.
