Bicyclist struck and killed by vehicle in Gentilly
The New Orleans Police Department says a bicyclist was stuck and killed by a vehicle in Gentilly Sunday morning.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department says a bicyclist was stuck and killed by a vehicle in Gentilly Sunday morning.

According to NOPD’s investigation, the bicyclist was traveling northbound in the outside southbound lane of St. Bernard Avenue around 11:20 a.m. when he reached the intersection of Harrison Avenue. At the same time, a Jeep Patriot traveling eastbound on Harrison Avenue stopped at the intersection and attempted to cross. For reasons unknown, the vehicle and the bicycle collided.

The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

NOPD says the driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The identity of the bicyclist has not been released. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim upon completion of an autopsy and notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation.
