Extensive damage to water main break in Kenner; repairs underway

KENNER (WVUE) -The Kenner Municipal Emergency Response Team, along with members of the Kenner Police Department and Jefferson Parish Water Department, are working to repair a major water line break in the 900 block of Vintage Drive.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area until the repairs are completed because of mud in the roadway. The westbound lane of Vintage at Vintage and Chateau is blocked, as is the eastbound lane of Vintage in the 900 block. In addition, the Medoc and Champagne intersection is blocked headed to Vintage.

As crews more closely inspected the broken underground pipe, it was discovered that more extensive damage had occurred to the water line, Mayor Ben Zahn said.

The damage requires metal sheeting, which is expected to arrive at the site soon, so that the workspace can be safely secured.

The current timeline calls for the work to be finished by about 4 p.m.

There will be limited or no water service for residents in this area while the repair is being made.
