NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The warmth in the year of 2020 was enough to claim the prize as the warmest year on record at New Orleans International Airport.
Records have been kept at the airport, the official reporting site for New Orleans, since 1946 and all of the top five warmest years on record have now been in the past decade.
The average temperature when you factor in all the highs and lows throughout the year was 73 degrees. This ties 2016 for the warmest year recorded at the site. The years of 2019, 2012 and 2015 round out the rest of the top five.
Every month throughout the year experienced above-normal temperatures except September which actually came in right at the average. For precipitation, the airport saw 71.75 inches of rainfall for the year which was 9.30 inches above-normal but the year did not finish as a top 10 wettest year on record.
